Biography

José Agustín was born on August 19, 1944 in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. He was a writer and director, known for La viuda de Montiel (1979), Ya sé quién eres (Te he estado observando) (1971) and Amor a la vuelta de la esquina (1986). He died on January 16, 2024 in Cuautla, Morelos, Mexico.

Studied classical literature at the School of Philosophy and Letters of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Studied film direction at the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC).

Studied dramaturgy at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBA).
