Born in Binningen, Switzerland on November 1, 1896, Ackermann entered films in 1914 and worked both in Switzerland and in Germany for over two decades. He recorded numerous popular songs including "Ich möchte Fyndin haben" and "Am Billettschalter." His artistic activity also included work as a painter and as a theatrical actor.
