Wasantha Obesekara was born on 29 December 1937 in Mathugama, Ceylon. He was a writer and director, known for Palangetiyo (1979), Maruthaya (1995) and Sewwandi (2006). He died on 8 April 2017 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
