Biography

Jack Hildyard was a British cinematographer. He made several films with David Lean including The Sound Barrier (1952), Hobson's Choice (1954), and The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

He also work in Another Time, Another Place (1958), Suddenly, Last Summer (1959), Topaz (1969) and Lion of the Desert (1981).

Hildyard died in 1990 at the age of 82.

Distinguished British cinematographer, in films from 1932 as a clapper boy at Elstree. One of the founding members of the BSC and recipient of the British Society of Cinematographers Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990. Worked several times with David Lean, winning an Oscar and a BSC Award for The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957).

He is the brother of sound mixer David Hildyard.
