Courtney Thorne-Smith is an American actress. She is best known for her starring roles as Alison Parker on Melrose Place, Georgia Thomas on Ally McBeal, Cheryl Mabel in According to Jim and her recurring role on Two and a Half Men as Lyndsey McElroy. Thorne-Smith was born in San Francisco, California, and grew up in Menlo Park, a suburb south of San Francisco. Her father, Walter Smith, was a computer market researcher, and her mother, Lora Thorne, was a therapist. They divorced when Courtney was seven years old and she lived with both parents at different stages. She has an older sister, Jennifer, who is an advertising executive. She attended Menlo-Atherton High School, in Atherton, California, and graduated from Tamalpais High School, in Mill Valley, California, in 1985. She also performed with the Ensemble Theater Company in Mill Valley while attending high school.

Once considered herself overly busty with a 32DD measurement but eschewed reduction surgery in favor of yoga which she says reshaped her figure of a C cup. "My body fat got redistributed, and my breasts got smaller."
Courtney had an on-and-off screen romance with Andrew Shue (Billy) during the filming of Melrose Place (1992) but they split up after a year.
She and her husband Roger Fishman welcomed their son Jacob 'Jake' Emerson Fishman on January 14, 2008. Jake weighed in at 6 lbs, 13 oz, arrived after 12 hours of labor.
Wrote her first (and, as of 2023, only) novel, "Outside In", which was released September 18, 2007.
Studied acting at the Ensemble Theatre Company in Northern California.

Never say never. I always want to look like myself - that's key for me. I don't want to look like a different person, I don't want my face frozen.
You need to eat normally and healthfully, and you need to exercise. I'm so passionate about this because I think people spend their lives not happy in their bodies.
You know, true love really matters, friends really matter, family really matters. Being responsible and disciplined and healthy really matters.
To be totally honest, if I could be thinner without it causing a lot of pain and anxiety in my life, I would be. But today the reality is my life is more important to me than my weight - and thank God for that.
