The show improved in the ratings, and the storylines with the five cast members won loyal audiences. However, the producers periodically kept adding cast members, such as a then-unknown George Clooney, to try to boost ratings. Even though, Fields liked Clooney, she complained that the producers learned nothing from the troubled first season and that they should have focused on the cast's core group (Rae, Whelchel, Fields, Cohn, McKeon), instead of adding and firing cast members.
