Biography

He wore a ring on his right hand that was a gift to him from his maternal grandfather, John Louis "Poppa" Duvall, whom he adored. It was a ring that had been in his family for years and belonged to his great-grandfather.

Lived at the Fontenoy Tower apartments in Hollywood during his early career in the late 80s to early 90s. His neighbors were Johnny Depp and Crispin Glover.

John was the son of Jim C. Dye, a furniture manufacturer, and Lynn Maree (Duvall), a homemaker. They raised him and his two younger brothers, Jamey and Jerre, as devout Methodists. Jerre Dye, also an actor, is the artistic director of a local theatre group called Voices of the South. John Dye never married or sired children. His favorite TV show as a child was Jonny Quest (1964) and his favorite movie was The Wizard of Oz (1939).

In his spare time he liked to play tennis and pool.

He was cremated at Trident Society in Walnut Creek, California. His nephews and nieces transported his urn in a private plane from San Francisco International Airport to Tupelo Regional Airport. It was ultimately buried at Haughton Memorial Park in Amory, Mississippi.
