Streaming Stars, Then and Now

Alex Thomson entered the film industry in 1946. He worked as regular camera operator to Nicolas Roeg in the 1960s before becoming a director of photography in 1968. His career suffered a hiatus in the mid 1970s when he was injured after falling off a camera rostrum on the set of Jesus Christ Superstar (1973). He was nominated for an Oscar in 1982 for his cinematography on Excalibur

Alex and Diana&#39;s daughter, <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0860982/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Chyna Thomson</a>, who worked for many years as her
father&#39;s assistant, is married to the director <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0941189/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Stephen Woolfenden</a>.

Was a member of the British Society of Cinematographers (BSC). Served as President from 1980 to 1982.

He was to have been cinematographer on <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0000180/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">David Lean</a>&#39;s adaptation of <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0175676/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Joseph Conrad</a>&#39;s Nostromo before Lean&#39;s death in April 1991 ended the project.
