Doug Abel has been a film editor and principal creative force of such major documentary features as: Errol Morris' Oscar-winning "The Fog of War," for which Doug was also nominated for an American Cinema Editor award; the Independent Spirit Award-winner "Some Kind of Monster;" and "Manda Bala," which won the Sundance Grand Jury Documentary prize as well as a Cinema Eye Honor Award for Outstanding Achievement in Editing. His work on Netflix's "Tiger King" resulted in what remains the most-watched documentary series ever, as well as a cultural phenomenon. Reuniting with that team in 2024, Doug helped shape HBO's "Chimp Crazy" into the network's most successful nonfiction series in years. Other notable documentary projects include Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 11/9" (Nominated for Writer's Guild of America Documentary Screenplay), Leon Gast's "Smash HIs Camera" (nominated for Sundance Documentary award), and Errol Morris' acclaimed "First Person" series.
In 2004 Doug and his wife Jenny founded a nonprofit sanctuary for rescued farm animals in Woodstock, NY, which under their tenure became regarded as one of the nation's finest. The New York native now resides in Louisville, KY, with Jenny and a menagerie of rescued dogs, cats and chickens.
