Biography

Ted Haimes, a New York-based documentary cinematographer and producer, has built an impressive portfolio throughout his career. Among his notable works are the Peabody Award-winning "Vietnam Requiem," which delves into the experiences of seven Vietnam veterans serving time in US prisons, and the Emmy-nominated "American Inquisition," a poignant exploration of the lives of those unfairly accused of communism during the blacklist era. He received Emmy Nominations for Cinematography for both these projects.

Haimes' early directorial efforts featured profiles of renowned artists such as Brice Marden, Aaron Siskind, and Duane Michals, in addition to documentaries on The Alvin Ailey School and The Big Apple Circus. These films garnered international attention, with screenings at prestigious museums and film festivals in New York, Venice, London, and Washington, D.C.

His work on "Decade" secured MTV its first Peabody Award, setting the tone and style for MTV News. Haimes continued to break new ground by collaborating with artist Marilyn Minter on "100 Food Porn," producing and directing the first TV commercial promoting an artist's exhibition. "American Gambit," a chronicle of Chess Grandmaster Garry Kasparov's challenge against six of America's top junior chess players, was among the first films to be screened in Moscow after the fall of the USSR.

After relocating to Los Angeles in 1995, Haimes continued creating feature documentaries such as "Dial H for Hitchcock" and "Punk!" while producing the Emmy-nominated "History of Rock 'n' Roll" series. His other television credits include "The Locator," "Aftermath with William Shatner," and "Conquered."
