Tengiz Abuladze is a Soviet and Georgian film director, screenwriter, teacher. People's Artist of the Georgian SSR (1966). People's Artist of the USSR (1980). Graduated from the railway technical school. In 1946, he graduated from the Tbilisi Theatre Institute. His teachers were Georgi Tovstonogov and D. Aleksidze. In 1953 he graduated from VGIK, workshop of Sergei Yutkevich. Since 1953 - director of the film studio 'Georgia-film'. Since 1974, he taught at the Tbilisi Theatre Institute. He was one of the initiators of the creation of the film department at the institute, where he taught a course in film directing. Since 1976 - Secretary of the Board of the Union of Cinematographers of Georgian SSR.
