Born on December 10, 1978. Summer Joy Phoenix is the fifth and youngest child of Arlyn Phoenix and John Bottom, a carpenter. Summer was raised in Southern California, but spent her teen years in Central Florida, where she was born. She is an active supporter of numerous charities and activist groups, mainly concerning the environment, animal rights and vegetarianism. Summer has also appeared in many print ads in Europe.

Summer was married to actor Casey Affleck. She filed for divorce in July 2017.

Sister of River Phoenix, Rain Phoenix, Joaquin Phoenix, & Liberty Phoenix.
She named her older son Indiana after her late brother, River Phoenix, who played young Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).
Her name, Summer Joy, represented her family's reaction to being back in the United States after leaving the religious cult, The Children of God.
Has 2 sons: Indiana Affleck (b. May 31, 2004) & Atticus Affleck (b. January 12, 2008) with ex-husband, Casey Affleck.
The name of her store (Some Odd Rubies) is a play on the owners' names (Some for Summer, Odd for Odessa, and Rubies for Ruby).

I didn't grow up watching TV or going to McDonald's or listening to mainstream music. Like, the casting agents are looking elsewhere for the cheerleader role.
Movies and I just equally avoided each other at certain times in my life, you know?
I'm good with accents and stuff; it's mostly that I have a really good Spanish accent, so it sounds like I speak a lot better than I do.
I guess I don't have the cut-throat ambition that some other actresses have. I don't know how good that is for my career, but I know how good that is for me as a person. And to me, that's much more important.
I've never had a diamond before, and now I've got a diamond surrounded by other diamonds and diamonds in places where, frankly, you don't need diamonds at all, and I would have been happy with a piece of twine.
