Elizabeth has also had a highly prolific career in the theater, appearing in two dozen productions off Broadway, and in Los Angeles, San Diego, and London. She won the Dramalogue Award and was nominated for a San Diego Critics Circle Award for playing the title role in Frank Wedekind's LULU at the La Jolla Playhouse alongside the late Harris Yulin. Off Broadway she was nominated for Best Featured Actress for her roles in Kevin Wade’s Cruise Control, directed by Norman Rene, and Bill C. Davis's Wrestlers, directed by the late Geraldine Fitzgerald. In London she starred in the critically acclaimed Butterfly Kiss at the renowned Almeida Theatre, which was named a #1 Top Pick in London's Time Out Magazine. She is a member of The Actors Studio and The Ensemble Studio Theater.

In movies made for TV, Elizabeth had strong supporting roles in Larry McMurtry's Montana, alongside Gena Rowlands, Lea Thompson, Michael Madsen, and Scott Coffey, Silence of the Heart, with Charlie Sheen and Mariette Hartley, and Home Fires Burning, with Bill Pullman and Neil Patrick Harris. Her guest starring roles on numerous prime time TV series include Miami Vice, The Equalizer, and a recurring role on Grounded for Life.

Elizabeth took a 21-year maternity leave to raise her daughter, writer/director Sadie Bones. She was the executive producer of Sadie's first feature film, If That Mockingbird Don't Sing, which won multiple awards on both the national and international film festival circuit, and was picked up for distribution by Tribeca Films/Giant Pictures. It can now be seen on VOD on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Fandango at Home, and streaming for free on YouTube, Tubi, Plex, and The Roku Channel.
