Molly Ringwald

Overview

Molly Ringwald was born in Roseville, California, the youngest daughter of Adele Edith (Frembd), a chef, and Robert Ringwald, a blind jazz pianist. Her ancestry includes German, English, and Swedish. At age five, she starred in a stage production of "Alice in Wonderland", playing the dormouse. She released an album at the age of six entitled, "I Wanna Be Loved By You, Molly Sings".

Turned down the Julia Roberts role in Pretty Woman (1990) and the Demi Moore role in Ghost (1990)
Has very fond memories of Pretty in Pink (1986). She lists it as her favorite film, and says her kiss with Andrew McCarthy at the very end is her favorite on screen kiss.
Refused the Lea Thompson role in Some Kind of Wonderful (1987), ending her successful business relationship with John Hughes, who was furious.
Was one of the eight original core members of the 1980s "Brat Pack" along with Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, and Andrew McCarthy.
David Lynch sent her the screenplay of Blue Velvet (1986), in the hope that she would be interested in playing the role of Sandy, which was eventually played by Laura Dern. However, Molly's mother read it first, and because it disturbed her, she never showed it to Molly for consideration.

I think I was blessed to be given the opportunity to be in those [Brat Pack] movies. I think they're great movies, and I'm proud of my work in them. But on the other hand, to talk about something I did so long ago when I have continued to work and do other things is a little tiring. I just get bored. I keep going back to those movies when I don't have anything new to say about them.
I have to accept the fact that these films have had a fantastic effect on people, and to deny that doesn't make any sense until I do something that has the same cultural and social impact of those movies. That's just the way it is.
